Undercover Sessions
All Mixed Up
An "Undercover" session outtake from Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas, May-June, 1983.
This is the wildest guitar weave that you'll ever hear from the "desperate tune-up twins". The vocal is low in the mix and nearly indecipherable. One thing is clear: Rockabilly guitar boogie with both guitar players chopping it up Scotty Moore style in wide stereo.
There are two versions of the song:
1st Version (2:41): Instrumental Jam (fades as side 1 of the LP ends)
2nd Version (6:52): Jagger Vocal
Found on LP:
"All Mixed Up" Outsider Bird Records OBR (RS-033 A/B). First 60 LP's on multicolor splash with basic color pink; splash white, black, and blue. Numbers 61 to 180 on "shocking" pink vinyl.
Well I'm a mix-up, mix-up
Baby and I'm a yellin' I wanna dance
And I don't know I'm a little mixed up
Talkin' about you well I'm a little mixed up
And I don't know what to do well I know I'm callin' Daisy
And I borrow some cloths I'm OK and talkin' to you
And I mix it up talkin' about you
Well I'm a little mixed up and, I don't know what to do
Instrumental guitar "weave" #1 (Woody left/Richards right)
Well I'm a mix...
Tell me baby and I'm a yellin' I'm gonna dance and I don't know
I'm a little mixed up talkin' 'bout you
Well I'm a little mixed-up ba-by I don't know what to do
Well I'm mixed-up baby I don't know... I'm a little mixed up (faint)
I'm a little mixed up talkin' 'bout you
Well I'm a little mixed-up and I don't know, what to do
Instrumental guitar "weave" #2
Well a man come baby and I'm a mad at you
Well I'm gonna tell you what I'm a gonna do
I'm a little mixed up yellin' about you
Well I'm a little mixed-up and I don't know what to do
Instrumental guitar "weave" #3 and outro
Put this rare little gem out as a CD single! It's too good to be sittin' in the "can". Note: This track was cut with a drum machine, which is left running at the very end of the take. A remarkable time capsule of the two guitar players when they are both able to perform as "lead" guitarist.
Tried To Talk Her Into It (3:27)
An "Undercover" session outtake from November-December, 1982 sessions at Pathe Marconi, Paris, France. A very catchy and up-tempo country flavored number. We hear Jagger pleading for just one night with the lady of his choice. The lyrics are ad lib in places as Jagger works his way through the live arrangement of the music. At certain points the lyrics remind me of You Don't Miss Your Water (performed by Gram Parson's with the Byrds).
Found On LP:
"Chain Saw Massacre" Outsider Bird Records (RS-29 A/B) 170 numbered copies on gold and black splash vinyl. Basic color gold. Trade Mark of Quality inspired stamped cover with OBR stamp and "shocking pink" Jagger head shot on back-side cover.

The Words:
I tried to talk her into it
And I tried...
I tried to talk her into it
And I tried to talk her into it
One, one sweet night of love
One, one sweet night of love
I tried to say what to him
My love for her was heaven sent
Even led me by the hand
Now come and love a to a man
Even led my cookie choir
I love for you is gonna fire
I tried to talk her into it
And I tried to talk her into it...
And I tried to mess her into it
And I tried to drink her into it
One, one sweet night of love
One, one sweet night of love
'A'
Don't think I don't understand
Don't think I don't all know why
Don't think I lovin' your water
Don't think I take every night...
And I tried to sing what to extent
My love for her was heaven sent
She might my lay me by the hand
Now come out and sing pile a man
I tried to talk her into it
And I tried to mix her into it...
Whoo
Now she will remember
And she will love
And I will, be my, be my, love
She will lead by the hand
Come on baby, I wanna dance
She to talk her out of it
Tried to talk her into it
She would too much do it
Tried to talk her into it
Just one, one sweet night of love
One, one sweet night of love
'A'
And I don't think I don't want your purse
Don't think I'm big in my mouth
I'm hungry, yes I am thirsty
Don't let me go on south
(Add Vocal Reverb - Laughs)
And I tried to say what to extent
My love for her was heaven sent
I will talked her into it
I tried to talk her into it
I gave her money, she refused
What would you do?
Whoo...
Tried to talk her into it...
Tried to talk her into it...
Outro:
Ba ba ba love a man
Lovin' to a dance
This is one of those of songs that will play back over and over in your head after just one listen. A very appealing song, with only some additional vocal work required to finish a track with great potential. Would a country song have worked on an album with no ballads? Absolutely!
