Comment: These aren't Early Mixes, London Mixes, Monitor Mixes, or Mixed Pickles. They are the final finished tracks minus one last stage of production: The length of song and fade out point determination. You hear the last cymbal crashes and a few random outro words that were otherwise faded. The tracks are somewhat longer and that's it. These are not the cool raw or rough versions like those heard on the various recent "Steel Wheels" outtake titles. One useful point is that Don't Wanna Go Home and Under The Radar are available in audio CD format in case you were unable to get the audio from the "A Bigger Bang - Special Edition" video disc release.

"Steel Wheels Primitive Mixes 1989"

(IMP-N-007)

Idol Mind Production

Air Studios, Monserrat, Caribbean, Olympic Sound Studios, London, March 15 - June 29, 1989 Sessions

Sound Quality: Excellent Stereo Studio. Drum and Guitars mixed where they should be. UP!

Performance: RAW POWER.

Sad Sad Sad 3:47/Mixed Emotions 6:32/Terrifying 5:46/Hold On To Your Hat 4:04/Hearts For Sale 4:35/Blinded By Love 5:19/Rock And A Hard Place (aka Steel Wheels) 5:37/Can't Be Seen 5:27/Almost Hear You Sigh (Keith Vocal) 4:48/Continental Drift 6:07/Break The Spell (aka Call Girl Blues) 3:59/Slipping Away 5:37/Fancy Man Blues 6:46/Ready Yourself (Instrumental) 3:39/For Your Precious Love 6:29

Comment: The most significant release of outtakes in years. No lie. Three other songs have circulated from the "Steel Wheels" sessions over the years, but the sound quality is no comparison. The tracks were:
Mixed Emotions 1:47/Hellhound On My Trail 1:15/Rock And A Hard Place 3:24 (this one from unissued 25X5 video footage)
from the rare Outsider Bird release
"Alternates" (shown below):

Almost Hear You Sigh was originally an outtake from the Keith Richards X-pensive Winos solo sessions, so it's not that unusual for Keith to be singing this song at Montserrat. There are two long Wino takes (7:54 & 8:26) in existance that were originally released on a very rare Outsider Bird LP titled "Crazy Mixed Up World". These recordings for the "Talk Is Cheap" solo effort were made from August to September 1987 at Le Studio in Montreal, Canada.
